How should people with ideas enage with DC members to help build the dream?

5

Today I spent 2 hours manning the nibusinessinfo.co.uk stand at the Belfast City Council Be Enterprising event.

Throughout the course of the event I advised 4 people from a variety of backgrounds regarding starting up their business. These were people from law, sports science and fashion design backgrounds who were linked by their ideas for web/digital businesses. All were non-technical but had subject matter expertise from other industries that they would like to capitalise on. All ideas had global application and potential.

The conversations all progressed to the topic of technology and how they would realise those ideas. As well as signposting them to our own IT & E-commerce theme on the site I asked them if they were aware of DC and if they had tried networking in those circles. All hadn't.

Members of DC, as people who could help those four folk make their business a reality what advise would you have for them regarding approaching yourselves to make that happen?

Hi David,

Cross-sectoral approaches are something that I know has been a struggle for many and the general high uptake of "Bizcamp" approaches show that there's certainly enthusiasm for networking for business.

But surely "the" place to go for this sort of assistance is NIBusinessInfo? And from there to be signposted to the specific sector leads - whether that be food & drink, wind power or digital media?

As for the approaches - we allow anyone to join our site - post jobs, opportunities and discussions. We only reserve the listing of businesses to those in the creation, management or distribution of digital media.

Thanks Matt,

Perhaps you misunderstood the gist of my note.

Simply, what do DC members feel is a good first step for people with ideas to make to get involved with the community represented here to make those ideas tangible products/services?

Hi David,

I'm not sure if I did misunderstand - because I'm going to compound it - so let me re-phrase the question:

What steps should the person with ideas take to find people to design, build and deploy the digital components of their Big Idea if they do not already know about Digital Circle?

I\d suggest we need to raise our PR game (which we are doing), hold more national level events (which we are planning) and build more amazing things (yes...guess what)
