BBC Writer in Residence: In Conversation... Malachi O'Doherty meets John Naughton
Join us for the latest in our continuing series of BBC Writer in Residence events in assocation with Queen's University, Belfast.
John Naughton is an academic, journalist and author who has written extensively about the internet and the development of new technologies. His most recent book, From Guttenberg to Zuckerberg (2012), describes the transformative effect of the internet on every aspect of life: social, cultural and economic.
John will be chatting about his work in making technology accessible to a general audience. He'll be reflecting on the practicalities of writing for newspapers (he's a columnist with The Observer and was a television critic in the mid 1980s) and on why the internet matters. He will also be discussing the likely impact of a digitally connected world on traditional media (books, broadcasting and newspapers) and on some of the threats and opportunities that lie ahead. It should be a lively 60 minutes.
We expect that this will be a popular event and that it will be of interest to anyone who is using the internet for work, play, education or communication.
Friday 2 March 2012 12.30pm-1.30pm. BBC Broadcasting House, Belfast.
