Role: Graduate/Junior Engineer

Responsible to: Engineering Manager

Location: Belfast

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: - Involvement in various aspects of the software development lifecycle including requirements capture, design, implementation, testing, installation and support. - Work with Senior Engineers to thoroughly understand software requirements, deliverables and timelines - Unit and system test new services, releases and software upgrades - Ability to specialise in specific lifecycle phases to meet the needs of the Company. - Ensure quality software is released to the customer on time. - Ensure the AEPONA Quality Management System is followed throughout the development process. - Off-site working to satisfy customer commitments and deliveries.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria: - At least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or other related discipline (examination results must demonstrate likely achievement of degree classification) - 0 – 2 years experience in a commercial software development environment - Proven experience of coding using a structured programming language, preferably on UNIX - Proven experience in JAVA and OO Design & Development - Knowledge of Webservices / REST - Highly motivated self-starter with proactive attitude towards tasks - Willingness and ability to learn - Capability of taking responsibility for work and personal and professional development. - Experience in working effectively within a team - Excellent communication skills - Excellent interpersonal skills - Excellent organisational skills - Ability to travel and work off-site for periods of time

Desirable Criteria: - Commercial Java experience - Knowledge/experience of telecommunications networks - Experience in other programming languages e.g. .Net, C#, Ruby/Grails - Application development experience using for example Amazon or Google webservices - At least 6 month’s placement experience in a software development role, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
